OCBC 2014!

Team Dawnriders are happy to report that we, fortunately, had no casualties coming out of this event!

 Image

(How do you like them pink jerseys?)

The mood was generally light and nervous, common for such an event. The emcees abusing the airhorn and sounding it every 5 seconds over the PA system whenever a wave was flagged off was not helping in a good way either. Not a good choice subjecting participants who woke up at 3 am to partake in the event.

As usual, OCBC Cycle was, in 1 word, CARNAGE. The first lap on the ECP we were well ahead of the other waves that would slow us down. A couple of our guys were pulling the growing peloton that we amassed along the way at a whopping 46kmph for a good amount of time! Up until the second lap after the u-turn at Fort Road did things took a turn for the worse.

Imagine this, ECP, as an expressway is big and wide. But if you split the 4 lanes up to 2 lanes each and you put thousands of cyclists together, with obstructions (ORANGE CONES!) right in the middle, the situation becomes a ticking time bomb for accidents. When we headed for our 2nd lap, we were caught right smack with the slower waves that are JUST beginning their first lap. It’s not that hard to picture the amount of shouting at the slower riders whom are enjoying the scenery to “KEEP LEFT!”

A little camwhoring before the start.

Racing for Autism- 3 IRONMANS in 15 days

One of our riders, Dex Tai, aka uber IRONMAN is currently racing for a cause.

His goal is to help raise $10,000 in aid of St. Andrew’s Autism School by 31st July 2012.

Autism is a lifelong condition that affects the way a person relates and communicates with others. A person with autism, generally has impairment in his or her communicative, social interaction and imaginative abilities.

Living life behind glass…’ that’s how Wendy Lawson, a person with autism, described how it is to have autism..

His activity is to race 3  full Ironman races, Ironman Austria-Klagenfurt, Ironman Germany-Frankfurt and Ironman Switzerland-Zurich in 15days.. (All travelling expenses incurred over this activity will come out of his own pocket.)

For people who dun know, an ironman is a 3.86-kilometre swim, a 180-kilometre bike and a marathon 42.195-kilometre run all in a day. Doing 1 is hard enough, doing 3 over 3 consecutive weekends is definitely not something a normal person can or is willing do. Knowing Dex, he will give his 110% and go all out for this 3 races.

We can give him a helping hand by giving a small donation for his cause, giving him the motivation to get him across the finishing line, not once, but all 3 times.

You can also help by sharing the word of him doing this great deed..

You can donate by click is link: DONATION!

(100% of the proceeds will be for the beneficiary of St. Andrew’s Autism Center).

Video of DR in action at Cameron!

It was a great trip, with lots of delicious food, with great company..

For this time, we chose to have one 1 bus support vehicle..

Thanks God, for Denny’s parent who went along, and become the all time no 1 support crew..

Both of them were driving up and down, providing the group with the greatly needed isotonic drinks..

*A great big thank you to you both!!*

Next time, we will plan to have a 2nd vehicle for water support..

For the next one, hopefully can get hit more than 20 🙂

Alvin the ultra runner..

Last week, Alvin, aka Po, aka short took part in the sundown ultra marathon race.

And of course DR was there to support him and to provide him with water.

Alvin did us proud by finishing 100km in almost 12.5hr..

After MIA for nearly 6months preparing for this run.. its time to be back on the bike again..

ALVIN! u better ride every week from now on!!!

It will be a long night…Photobucket
